What is Rule 1 of success?

Sir Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin Group Ltd., oversees more than 400 companies.

Branson’s entrepreneurial journey began with a magazine, and he went on to succeed in various industries, including music, banking, aviation, space travel, healthcare, mobile phones, retail, and tourism.

Despite struggling with dyslexia and not excelling in school, Branson was more drawn to extracurricular activities.

At 15, he started his first business growing trees. By 16, he dropped out of high school.

After leaving school, he launched The Student, a magazine focused on youth culture. To fund it, he sold ads to companies targeting students.

He later started Virgin, a mail-order record company, to complement the magazine. As the business grew, he launched his own record label, Virgin Music.

In 1984, Branson entered the airline industry with Virgin Atlantic Airways, challenging the dominance of British Airways.

By 1999, he started Virgin Mobile.

The list of ventures Branson has started goes on and on.

What’s his key to success?

Branson wasn’t an exceptional student or business manager—he’s an exceptional starter.

His number one rule for success is simple: STOP overthinking and planning, and START taking action today.
