What have you regretted the most in your life?
Life has suddenly turned upside down.
In December 2021, my mother started losing a lot of weight unexpectedly. We took her to different hospitals for checkups, and the only thing they found was iron deficiency anemia. We were worried, but it seemed like nothing too serious.
We continued her treatment at AIIMS, and her blood count improved, but she was still getting weaker. The doctors said she would be fine, but we couldn't wait. In February 2022, we decided to take her to Vishakhapatnam to get a second opinion, just to make sure there was nothing more serious going on.
There are four people in our family: me, my mother, my father, and my older brother. My brother stayed home for an urgent matter, so my father, mother, and I went to Vishakhapatnam.
After several tests, when I was sitting with the doctor, he said my mother had signs of gallbladder cancer. My father, who didn't speak English, didn’t understand what the doctor said. I was in shock, not knowing how to react. I looked at my father and told him everything was okay because I didn’t have the strength to break the news to him alone. My brother was planning to join us two days later.
I kept the news to myself and told everyone that the doctor had found a problem, but everything would be fine. The doctor we saw was a junior, so he couldn't provide much information. We had to wait two more days to meet a senior doctor.
For those two days, I struggled to hold everything in. Watching my mother weak and going through scans was incredibly hard. Two days later, when my brother arrived, I told him about the cancer. He collapsed in shock; I had never seen him so devastated.
Together, we told our father, and he was crushed. He started crying, and my brother and I tried to comfort him, assuring him that everything would be okay.
We stayed in Vishakhapatnam until March, and my mother started her chemotherapy. It was already stage 4, but we didn't lose hope.
After 20 rounds of chemo, the doctors told us they couldn’t continue and suggested getting a second opinion in Hyderabad. There, the doctors said only palliative care could be provided.
We then switched to Ayurvedic treatment from Madhya Pradesh, and we saw some improvement in her condition.
Two years later, in 2024, the cancer spread to her liver, showing all the symptoms. She fought so hard, but despite her efforts, God showed no mercy.
In May 2024, we lost her.
Everything feels so hard right now. We're devastated, and it feels like we have nobody. I’m writing this because I needed to let out my feelings.
