What amazed you today?
Not today, but a few days ago.
Last Friday, I was on my way home, and since my train was delayed, I had to wait. When the train finally arrived, I boarded and was ready to go home, but the train didn’t start moving right away.
Feeling bored, I started looking around at the busy platform, noticing how everyone was in such a rush. But then something caught my attention and stopped me from looking anywhere else.
I saw a family of ragpickers sitting near the platform, and they were about to open a bundle of cloth, which I could clearly see. My curiosity grew, and when they opened it, I saw that it contained chapatis and a little bit of pickles.
They were about to start eating when suddenly, a slightly blind beggar walked up to them. I wondered what would happen next, and to my surprise, the family gave him some chapatis and pickles. I was stunned by their kindness.
But the story doesn’t end there. As all this was happening, I noticed a man in his 40s standing up from where he had been sitting. He was also watching the same scene. He went somewhere, and I kept watching the family, still amazed by what I had seen.
A few minutes later, the man came back, holding a paper bag. He gave it to the family, and my curiosity grew. When they opened the bag, I saw it was filled with about 7 or 8 samosas (a popular Indian snack).
I was really amazed by this act of kindness, and by the time my train finally started moving, I couldn’t stop thinking about what had just happened.
I tried to take a photo of the family with the blind beggar and the man, but I wasn’t able to.
